World History Syllabus
Course Description: This full-year. We will begin with a brief review and focus on classroom procedures. The course officially begins with the expanding and intensified global interaction focusing on World Religions and concludes with the 20th century since 1945 focusing on current global issues facing the world. The units are organized by geographic boundaries, with the exception of a world religions unit and revolutions and conflict units. Emphasis will be focused on the political, social, scientific and economic events which shaped the world as we know it today. We will continue to find an understanding of our cultural diversity and its role in the economic and political processes of the World. The course will focus on critical thinking, organizational skills, decision making, and the formation of well-supported, persuasive opinions.
Class Methodology: This is an inquiry based course where you will discover and utilize knowledge about social studies through textbook, supplemental readings, primary sources, websites, and discussions with other students and the instructor. You are responsible for actively acquiring and constructing information by completing ALL assigned readings and activities.
Both a formal and informal assessment will be used in evaluating your performance throughout the course. Informal assessments will include an evaluation of the quality and timeliness of your participation in class activities. Formal assessments will involve essays, projects, tests/quizzes, and exam.
